If you travel internationally and work in relief, development and mission, it provides an opportunity for you to develop your practical skills and a robust knowledge of how to respond appropriately to a range of injuries and illnesses which commonly occur on the field.
The successful completion of this course will provide you with a certificate which is valid for three years.
What will the course cover?
- Incident management
- Managing suspected fractures
- Controlling blood loss
- Contents of a first aid kit
- Management of a blocked airway
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Dealing with burns and scalds
- Understanding Malaria
- Understanding Rabies
- Managing high fevers and dehydration
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Understand how to define and identify the risks of the relief and development environment
- Understand how to recognise an injury and how to monitor and take effective action
- Understand how to recognise a suspected medical condition and how to monitor and take effective action
- Understand how to reduce the risk of developing an infectious disease.
- Apply critical thinking and prioritisation skills when dealing with emergencies
