What is PFA?
Psychological First Aid is an evidence-informed support framework for assisting staff, colleagues, team members and their families in the direct aftermath of a critical incident.
PFA is a way to provide emotional support to people of any age or background in order to reduce the initial distress caused by the critical event and to foster short- and long-term adaptive functioning and coping.
For who?
PFA can be delivered by anyone who has completed a course on safely providing PFA to affected people.
The course is aimed at anyone who works with staff and volunteers in relief, development and mission settings. While anyone is welcome to attend, it is particularly useful for (HR) managers, team leaders or those who might be expected to take a leadership role in the aftermath of a critical incident or other traumatic event.
How?
InterHealth offers a two day training course on Trauma and PFA (TPFA), tailored especially for those working in the emergency aid sector.
The TPFA training will offer the opportunity to learn and develop practical and effective strategies in supporting staff in the aftermath of overwhelming events. It will help staff to identify those at risk and those in need of further support. Alongside technical knowledge, the course also provides a grounding in the basic neuroscience of stress and its impact on individuals.
